about

“Valentine’s Day” was originally done with my band Speed Of Life but in a fast drum and bass style. I revisited this song during these sessions after playing it very differently live on Acoustic. A whole new production idea emerged which gave me the impetus to redo the song. The vocal is from the original and was 80% improvised on the spot in between a break up on the phone and the ensuing conversation 2 hours later in person. Basically I was losing someone, felt devastated by it, pressed record and what you hear is what I sang in all the verses and part of the chorus. But as I revisited the song it took on a new meaning for me. I feel it’s an honest invitation from one’s heart to to stop neglecting one’s own truth because all love starts with self love. This was the theme I kept coming back to in my journey work, yet giving to oneself is often the hardest thing for us to do.....

Valentine’s Day
Lyrics & Music By John Zay

Test Water, Test Water…

I think about all the reasons that you are perfect for me
I think about all the reasons I need you to feel me
I want you to know I’ve waited for you
I’ve waited for you; I’m done being through with our love
My heart can’t take this anymore

In the daytime
At the nighttime
With the evening sun
At the break of dawn
You’re in my mind
In my mind
I can feel you all the time

Cause its the way your eyes
Speak from inside
Telling me you are mine

In the daytime
At the nighttime
With the evening sun
At the break of dawn
You’re in my mind
Give me some time
To show you I'm here to stay

I want to share with you
I want to care about you
Give me what I need - my love
Mmm, my love, Mmm, my, my
Ohh don’t go too far away
There’s no reason to stray
From your home it’s in your heart
Everything else is just a false start

In the daytime
At the nighttime
With the evening sun
At the break of dawn
You’re in my mind
In my mind
I can feel you all the time

Cause its the way your eyes
Speak from inside
Telling me you are mine

In the daytime
At the nighttime
With the evening sun
At the break of dawn
You’re in my mind
Give me some time
To show you I'm here to stay

Baby Please don’t betray our love
I’ve laid all my feelings out on the line
I w ant nothing but the truth you hold inside

Don’t throw it away
Don’t throw it away – I love you
It’s Valentine’s Day
It’s Valentine’s Day....
